Positive Self-Talk: My Value to Listeners

POSITIVE SELF TALK

  • My material could help them.

  • My goal is to help them, not be a perfect public speaker.

  • I speak to one person at a time as I always do

  • My goal is to be excellent, not perfect.

  • They are here for the information, not the speaker!

  • I rehearse the Opener and Close aloud 5 times so they are smoother.

  • Everyone is normally nervous in the first 5-minutes.  I rehearse to act like my confident self when I begin.

  • I transfer Ideas and am not concerned with using the same words each time. My own notes are key words and phrases, not full sentences.

  • Notes are insurance that I will give the talk I’ve prepared. They prevent losing my place or my mind going blank.

  • When I make mistakes, I correct them and continue speaking.

  • I don’t compare myself with anyone.

  • I notice my tiny improvements which motivate me to continue improving.

  • I anticipate questions and rehearse my answers aloud.

  • I use my improved skills in daily meetings and calls to build my confident speaking habits for important talks.
