Re-direct Without Being Rude

When your time is wasted: someone is giving too much detail, or restating what you’ve already understood…

At Work: you must interrupt, but With a small, appreciative SMILE. “You’ve explained that well, would you tell us about…”

With Friends: when the group begins on a, “Don’t you wish that…” “Isn’t it awful that…” and other issues that can’t be changed (The Rule for Peace of Mind is ‘Change what I can, Accept what I can’t change’), I say, “What can you do to get through it? Cope with it? Have it cause less damage?”

All of this works sometimes! I must put up with people at work. I delete or spend less time with time wasters in my personal life.

Be brave.
